A man is being held without bond in connection with the weekend shooting death of another west of Eupora.
Webster County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about the shooting at 418 MS Hwy. 182 W. just before 3 a.m. Sunday. Webster 911 reports show the Eupora Police Department, EMS and Mississippi Highway Patrol were also dispatched to the report of shots fired.
The victim died at North Mississippi Medial Center-Eupora, according to a release from the Webster County Sheriff’s Department. He was later identified as Earl Jerome Cullum, 27, of Eupora.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect in the shooting was taken into custody at 6:22 a.m. Sunday by sheriff’s deputies and the EPD. Webster County Jail records and a Justice Court affidavit identified him as Charles Jarmaine Potts, 33, also of Eupora.
Potts has been charged with first-degree murder. Justice Court Judge Rebecca Ellison denied bond during his initial appearance before her at the jail on Monday.
Additional details were not available as of press time but Sheriff Andy McCants said Monday morning they would be released later.
