May 18 was our last storytime at the Maben Public Library. We finished with "Swimmy."
It is a story about a school of red fish that were eaten by a big fish. The only one that wasn't eaten was a black fish named Swimmy. He was alone and scared in the big ocean all by himself.
He swam in the deep until he came upon all kinds of marvelous creatures. He saw a rainbow jellyfish, a lobster, a strange fish pulled by an invisible thread, a forest of seaweeds, an eel and sea anemones.
Then hidden in the dark shade of rocks and weeds, he saw a school of fish just like his own. He wanted them to go swim and play with him but they were scared of being eaten by the big fish.
So Swimmy thought and thought until he decided they could all swim together and look like the biggest fish in the sea! So when they had learned to be one giant fish, he said he would be the eye. So they swam and played and chased the big fish away!
