During their regular meeting, on Tuesday, January 22, the Louisville Board of Aldermen heard an annexation presentation from Mike Slaughter. Slaughter pointed out that the 2010 Census showed Louisville’s population to be 6.6K, and the annexation study area would increase the population to approximated 7K. He added that surveys by the Census Bureau had shown a decrease in population since 2010, but an increase in housing units, stating that he had a hard time making sense of those figures.
Slaughter added that if annexation went forward with the study area, which encompasses approximately one-quarter mile on most boundaries, it would not affect the City’s Class-6 fire rating. However, there would be issues with utilities and rural water systems that would need to be addressed. Mayor Will Hill proposed that he and Slaughter meet with the Utilities Board to involve them as much as possible.
The Board voted 5-0 to remove the property at 312 N. Hight Ave. from the unclean properties list as it is now in compliance.
Concerning the community saferoom, the Board voted 5-0 to authorize Hill to sign change orders with Burks Mordecai Builders for $67K to furnish and install a FEMA overhead coiling door, and for $11K for additional ADA site work to accommodate the FEMA door.
In other action, the Board:
•Voted 5-0 to authorize payment to Avilio Cash for $1.8K, Bennett’s Do It Center for $16.99 and Baker’s Ready Mix for $690, for the park project.
•Voted 5-0 to accept the resignations of police officers David Dillon Sharp and Darius Lavine.
• Voted 5-0 to authorize travel expenses to the Mississippi Municipal League Summer Conference, June 24-26.
The next scheduled meeting of the Louisville Board of Aldermen is Tuesday, February 5 at 5:30 p.m.
