MATHISTON — A local Boy Scout has begun a project that will help children at East Webster Elementary School have an outdoor location to learn.
DJ Carpenter is building an outdoor classroom at EWES for his Eagle Scout Service Project. The East Webster High School senior is a member of Boy Scout Troop 30.
DJ was at the project site Monday helping donor B&B Dirt Service of Mathiston build a dirt pad. He operated a dozer and trackhoe, and dumped the dirt out of a dump truck for the pad.
When completed, any classes or organizations at EWES will be able to use the addition to the school for meetings or other needs. The 20-by-26-foot covered structure will have benches.
DJ accepted donations to buy supplies for the project. In addition to B&B Dirt Service donating its services, Boardtown Concrete of Starkville is donating concrete. DJ is looking for other donations, such as lumber and paint.
An Eagle Scout Service Project, or simply Eagle Project, is the opportunity for a Boy Scout to demonstrate leadership of others while performing a project for the benefit of his community.
