At a regularly-scheduled meeting, on Tuesday, April 16, Louisville Mayor Will Hill and the Board of Aldermen acknowledged many efforts of residents throughout the City during the Litterless Louisville Campaign which ran from March 19 through April 16. Hill noted, however, that there is still much work to be done to beautify the City. In response the Board unanimously voted to continue the campaign through May 21.
The proclamation reads in part: Now therefore, be it resolved that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Louisville, Mississippi, proclaims the continuation of the LITTERLESS LOUISVILLE CAMPAIGN from April 16-May 21, 2019 in Louisville, Mississippi; And be it further resolved that the citizens of Louisville enthusiastically participate in the cleanup efforts of the community. Unanimously and enthusiastically adopted this day, April 16, 2019, and approved by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Louisville, in regular session.
Ginger Ming and Robert Finch, of Louisville Housing Authority, reported to the Board that they have several projects lined up which include drainage and landscaping issues, in addition to others, on North Court Ave., West Main St., Pearl Ave. and Alice Cir. The cost of the projects is $100K. Ming also informed the Board that within the next several years there will be a change in how the Housing Authority is structured; these determinations will come from the federal level, and at this point no one is sure what they will be.
Michele Stedelman of Hope Enterprises spoke to the Board concerning a grant program which would help with blighted properties. The Board voted unanimously to allow Mayor Hill approve the grant application.
The Board dealt with a few unclean property issues including:
80 Northwood Drive, owned by Adam Reed. Code Enforcement Officer Jody Fulton stated that Reed is doing a good job of cleaning the property, and the Board voted 5-0 to remove this property from the list.
1586 N. Columbus Ave., owned by Monica Partridge. Fulton stated that progress is being made, and the Board voted 5-0 to give the property owner 30 more days.
162 W. Jefferson St., owned by Applewhite Acquisitions. The Board voted 5-0 to adopt a resolution adjudicating the cost of cleaning in the amount of $986, and upon the same order filing a lien against the property.
In other action, the Board:
Voted 5-0 to authorize public notice for Solid Waste Collection proposals for the purpose of collection residential and small business solid waste.
Voted 5-0 to approve Landfill Closure/Postclosure annual payments to Bancorp South Bank for a total of $16K.
