This past Sunday afternoon officers of Louisville Police Dept., Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics gathered at Louisville Memorial Cemetery to honor local fallen officers: Darrell Cooper, Louisville Police Dept. Reserve Officer; Hank McLeod, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Agent; and Joe Clay. Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper.
LPD Chaplain Rev. Charles Rook spoke briefly to those gathered about the grave responsibilities taken by law enforcement officers across the country who willing step into harm’s way to serve and protect those whom they do not even. And they know the inherent risks when they choose to put on the badge, yet they willingly take those risks out of love for their fellow man.
A wreath was placed at the grave of each of Winston County’s fallen officers as a reminder that they made the greatest sacrifice, and demonstrated the greatest love, for no man can give more than his own life others.
The United States House of Representatives recently recognized the role of police officers.
“Our law enforcement officers play a vital role in creating safe communities to live, worship, and raise a family. Each day, law enforcement officers across our nation risk their own lives to protect the American public from disaster. Unfortunately, this risk is associated with a cost – the loss of life in the line of duty. It’s vital that this Congress supports National Police Week in order to recognize the ultimate sacrifice our officers have paid in the line of duty and the mission of law enforcement and to celebrate those officers who have made positive differences in our communities,” Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) said.
