Robert Jones was took the oath of office as the new member of the Louisville Municipal School District Board of Trustees at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, January 14. Jones will represent District 2.
Teachers of the Year were recognized for all schools within the district. They are: Fair Elementary, Anitra Frazier; Louisville Elementary, Marion Winters; Eiland Middle School, Scott Heard; Louisville High, Adrienne Smitherman; Nanih Waiya Attendance Center, Courtnee Graham; Noxapater Attendance Center, Lyndsey Byrd; Winston-Louisville Career & Technology Center, Jenny Vowell. Heard was also recognized as the district wide Teacher of the Year.
Board members heard a presentation from Clark Brady of ABM, a company that deals with custodial & maintenance. Brady stated that the company is already working with a number of schools in the state at significant savings to those districts.
In his report, Superintendent Dr. Randy Grierson reported 131 students who have increased three grade levels on Reading Plus; 75 students who have increased four grade levels and 18 students who have increased five grade levels on Reading Plus. He also reported that six students began their initial internship with Taylor Machine Works on the14th.
In other action, the Board:
• Voted 4-0 to approve a lengthy consent agenda. Board member Bobby Pierce was not present for the meeting.
• Voted 4-0 to approve Claims Dockets #327786 through #327961 and December 2019 Agency/Activity fund checks.
• Voted 4-0 to approve the December 2019 bank balances and financial reports.
• Voted 4-0 to approve cancellation of a 2-acre residential lease for Francisco Galvin on 16-14-10 (Rural Hill).
• Voted 4-0 to approve cancellation of a 1.6-acre residential lease for Alexia Permenter on 16-13-12 (Noxapater).
• Voted 4-0 to approve cancellation of a 2-acre residential lease for Flossie McIntyre on 16-14-12 (Center Ridge).
• Voted 4-0 to approve advertising for a 7-acre agricultural lease on 6-13-12 (Noxapater).
The Board also set the date of their next meeting for Tuesday, February 11 at 5:30 p.m.
