Mississippi voters return to the polls Tuesday to elect officeholders from the county level up for the next four years.
Polling places will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 5 during the general election. Noon Saturday is the deadline to vote absentee at the Circuit Clerk’s Office in Walthall. All voters must present an acceptable photo ID.
Contested races in Webster County and candidates for those offices are:
• Sheriff: Democrat David Gore, Republican Jeffrey Mann and Independent Calvin “Brad” Robinson.
• District 1 Supervisor: Democrat Curtis “Eudy” Morris (incumbent) and Republican Kevin “Rudy” Ray.
• District 2 Supervisor: Democrat Pat Cummings (incumbent) and Republican Matt Brasher.
• District 3 Supervisor: Democrat Randy “Poochie” Rico (incumbent) and Republican Jason Burney.
• County Attorney: Democrat Hays Burchfield and Republican Henry Ross.
• Coroner: Democrat Scott Dean and Republican Dianne Wright.
Other contested races that Webster County votes help decide are those for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, state treasurer, commissioner of agriculture and commerce, commissioner of insurance and Northern District transportation commissioner.
Unlike in primary elections, in which a voter must cast a ballot of one political party only, party preference doesn’t matter in general elections. One may vote for any candidate, regardless of their party affiliation, in any race.
