The Winston County Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program will soon be underway for 2021 honoree. This scholarship and honors program recognizes, rewards, and encourages excellence while promoting self-esteem among young women.
The 2021 Winston County Distinguished Young Women Program will Be Saturday, February 29th at the Louisville High School Auditorium. There are 4 contestants this year: Katie Lucas-Louisville High School, Bella Hillyer-Winston Academy, Skylar Eaves-Nanih Waiya Attendance Center, Chloe Weeks-Nanih Waiya Attendance Center. The 4 young women have started preparing for the event with the help of Bailey Gregory, the 2020 Winston County Distinguished Young Woman.
Contestant number one is Katie Nicole Lucas. She is a junior at Louisville High School. Her parents are Doug and Cindy Lucas. Katie will be performing a self-written monologue, “So Sorry Mr. Davis.”
Bella Grace Hillyer is contestant number two. She is the daughter of Matt and Amy Hillyer. She is a junior at Winston Academy. She will be performing a tumbling floor routine to “Are You Ready For A Miracle” by LeAnn Rimes.
Skylar Chesney Eaves is contestant number 3. She is the daughter of Derek and Kristi Eaves. Skylar is a junior at Nanih Waiya Attendance Center. She will be singing, “Head Above Water” by Avril Lavigne.
Contestant number four is Chloe Grace Weeks, a junior at Nanih Waiya Attendance Center. She is the daughter of Kevin and Twyla Weeks. For her talent, she will be playing the piano piece, “Whitewater Chopped Sticks” by Calvin Jones.
Participants compete in the following categories for a chance to win scholarships and prizes: Interview, Scholastics, Talent, Fitness, and Self Expression. They are also given an opportunity to participate in "Be Your Best Self," a program dedicated to the service of others and community awareness.
The winner of the Winston County Distinguished Young Women title goes on to representWinston County at the State program in July 2020 in Meridian, MS.
Should she win there, she will then travel to Mobile, Alabama as Idaho's Distinguished Young Woman to compete at the national competition in June of 2021. The winner of the America's Distinguished Young Woman represents the program across the country during the next year.
To participate in the Winston County Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program all junior girls must meet the following criteria: be a US citizen, never have been married or pregnant, live with a parent or designated guardian, hold at least a 2.0 accumulative grade point average, and meet attendance requirements.
