WALTHALL —A new retail establishment will be opening soon in the county seat and a Eupora native helped bring the project to fruition.
Dollar General is opening a new location on the west side of Highway 9 directly across from Walthall Quick Stop and on the north side of the new Webster County Courthouse that remains under construction.
RJ Allen & Associates of Oxford was the general contractor. Project Manager Brian Bowen, a native of Eupora who was superintendent during construction, said site work began in late February and RJ Allen plans to turn the building over to Dollar General on Thursday.
Dollar General will move in on that “fixture date” and, if all goes as planned, will open its doors about a week later, he said. The 9,100-square-foot building is located on about 2 acres acquired from the village of Walthall.
RJ Allen provides pre-development, pre-construction and general construction in its role as a general contractor.
“We go out and purchase the land and build the building,” Bowen said.
“The community and particularly Mayor Belinda Stewart were very helpful in that process,” he said. “Everybody in the community was extremely helpful and made everything as easy as possible for us.”
Bowen, who has been working with RJ Allen since January, is the son of Charles “Dinky” Bowen of Eupora and Diane Hubbard Ray of Oxford.
Dollar General Corp., which is headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, anticipates opening around 900 new stores in fiscal 2018, according to published reports. The company operates 14,700 stores in 44 states, including ones in Eupora, Mathiston and Maben.
