The January meeting of the Louisville Municipal School District Board of Trustees began with newly-elected Board member Roger Caperton taking the oath of office as administered by Administrative Secretary Shiela Fulton. The Board now consists of: Bobby Pierce, President; Jacqueline Steele, Vice-President; Mark Dillard, Secretary; Brenda Johnson, Asst. Secretary; Roger Caperton, Member.
The Board also recognized the Teachers of the Year for the district. They are: Jenni Lee, Fair Elementary; Jessica Bonkowski, Louisville Elementary; Cylesha Hopkins, Eiland Middle; Gwendolyn Jordan, Louisville High; Jimmy Rushing, Winston-Louisville Career & Technology Ctr.; Jenny Ming, Nanih Waiya; Penny Stalcup Noxapater & District Teacher of the Year.
In his report to the Board, Superintendent Randy Grierson reported that 48 students increased three readability levels from December to January; 50 students increased four readability levels; 23 students increased five readability levels; and three students increased by six readability levels.
Grierson also reported that three additional students will be added to the 25 ACT Banner Wall of Fame, and attendance remains at around 95%.
In addition, the Superintendent reported that the Vocational and Career Center will receive a $195K grant for equipment through ARC and ECCC, which will consist of $95K for the welding program, $82.5K for a new industrial maintenance program that the District is working on, and $7.5K for electrical upgrade to the building.
The Board voted unanimously to hire Tyrone Shorter as Head Football Coach/Athletic Director at Louisville High School.
In other action, the Board:
• Voted 5-0 to approve the Consent Agenda.
• Voted 5-0 to approve the financial reports.
• Voted 5-0 to approve the Use of Force Policy
• Voted 5-0 to approve the following student transfer requests:
• Grabriella Young from Louisville to Noxapater.
• Lillie Cockrell from Nanih Waiya to Noxapater.
• Hayden MaKenzie King, Donnie Chunn and Shelby Yates from Louisville to Noxapater.
• Voted 5-0 to cancel a 2.5 acre residential lease on Deloise Warren for non-payment of taxes on 16-14-12 (Center Ridge).
The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for Tuesday, February 12 at 5:30 p.m.
