A number of persons have qualified for offices in Winston County so far with one elected official announcing her retirement.
Winston County Chancery Clerk Julie Cunningham has announced she will retire at the end of her second term on December 31, 2019.
Qualifying for county, state district and statewide races began Jan. 2 and ends at 5 p.m. March 1.
Winston County Circuit Clerk Kim Ming who is running for reelection denoted that it had been relatively quiet in the first days of qualifying.
“Usually, if an incumbent is not running in a major office like Chancery Clerk we would see a lot more activity,” said Ming.
Ming did add that several had picked up the paperwork to run and may qualify before the March 1 deadline.
These candidates had qualified for Winston County offices as of Monday morning, with all running as Democrats. Incumbents are denoted by (Inc):

• County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Madison (D) (Madison was appointed to this post Monday, January 7 by the Winston County Board of Supervisors to fill out the rest of Kiley Kirk’s term.)
• Coroner, Scott Gregory (D) (Inc)
• Constable East Post, Lester K. Holdiness (D) (Inc)
• Justice Court Judge East Post, Mike Fuller (D) (Inc)
• Justice Court Judge West Post, Robert A. Beck (D) (Inc) and Stacey Goss-Spiva (D).
• Supervisor District 1, James L. ‘Burr’ Warner, Jr. (D) (Inc)
• Supervisor District 2, Luke Lamar Parkes (D) (Inc)
• Supervisor District 3, Marion E. ‘Kenny’ Jordan (D) (Inc)
• Supervisor District 4, Ralph A. Goss (D) (Inc)
• Supervisor District 5, Larry Duran (D) (Inc)
Additionally, District 35 Rep. Joey Hood of Ackerman has qualified.
Party primaries are Aug. 6 with runoffs Aug. 27, if needed. The general election is Nov. 5.
The Legislature has increased the qualifying fees for all county offices to $100, including Independent candidates who must also file a petition with at least 50 qualified electors’ signatures.
