The Choctaw County circuit clerk’ s office will have absentee ballots available for the August 6 primary election starting next week..
The circuit clerk’s office is open for voter registration and will be open Saturday, July 6 from 8 .m. to noon.
The deadline to register in order to vote in the August primary is 5 p.m. on July 8.
A voter must present one of these IDs when voting, and the name on the photo ID must be similar to one’s voter registration:
• Driver’s license
• Photo ID issued by a branch, department or entity of state of Mississippi.
• U.S. passport.
• Government employee ID card
• Firearms license
• Student photo ID by an accredited Mississippi university, college or U.S. military ID
• Tribal photo ID
• Photo ID issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the U.S. government or any state government.
• Mississippi voter ID card (photo)
Voters who do not have any of the listed photo IDs may obtain a free “voter identification card” by applying at the circuit clerk’s office. One may call 258-6287 for more information.
A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. The General election will be November 5.
