An issue with the local solid waste landfill was the subject of discussion during the Louisville Aldermen meeting, on Monday, October 15. Mayor Will Hill reported an emergency situation with a new cell that has been prepared for use, where ground water has begun to run between the liner and the ground. The new cell is urgently needed but cannot be used until the problem has been corrected. The Board voted unanimously to declare an emergency and allow Hill to work with Century Construction while receiving guidance from Neel Schaffer Engineers.
The Board also discussed the Municipal Intercept Co., LLC (MIC), an organization to assist in collecting the City’s debt. The Board voted unanimously to adopt a resolution authorizing Hill to sign an agreement with MIC as authorized by the Local Government Debt Collection Setoff Act. The Board also voted unanimously to appoint LaTonya Glass as the local debt collection coordinator, and Kayla Rogers as the hearing officer for debt collection.
In other action, the Board:
• Voted 5-0 authorize payment of $11K to First Security Bank for 2012 GO (General Obligation) Bond interest payment.
• Voted 5-0 to approve transfer, in five payments, from the General Fund to the E911 Fund for a total of $115K, as budgeted for 2019-2020.
• Voted 4-0, with Alderwoman Gwenita Mays recusing herself, to acknowledge a total annual donation from Winston Plywood and Veneer for $100K for Parks & Recreation use.
• Voted 5-0 to Acknowledge a grant award of $150K Small Municipalities Limited Population counties Grant for Rail Park Development, which requires at 10% match.
• Voted 5-0 to acknowledge donations to Louisville Fire Dept. from Walmart for $2K and Fire Calendar for $1K.
