(Aug. 13) How do I begin after waiting so long to write to you? First by thanking the Lord for all he has blessed us with. We are still able to get around some, even if it is on a cane.
Doctor appointments this week were good reports. We got to church Sunday and enjoyed so much our visit to Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church this week, seeing old friends and acquaintances.
We had a wonderful quick visit from our daughter and all had lunch together with Gregg on Friday. Precious moments, precious times.
I’m beginning to feel that fall is not far away. The corn is turning brown and the dragonflies are flying over the cornfield. The green on the trees is looking duller. The days seem to be getting shorter; all signs to me that fall is nearing.
Our days are all about alike except for doctor appointments out of town. Talking to friends on the phone is a thing of pleasure an remembering good times with good friends. I still hand sew a little and Bill keeps busy with his little projects.
We still look forward to meal times and hearing every day from our children. That’s such a blessing and, oh yes, we are thankful for the new Dollar General just across the hills from us at Walthall.
As I always say, I am looking forward to the first fire this fall. Air-conditioning is wonderful but it doesn’t make these “old bones” feel any better.
We always look forward to getting the paper on Wednesday. I really enjoy the piece by Roger Alford. That’s my kind of writing. We sure all need some humor everyday in our lives.
We are having church at Bluff Springs again on first and third Sundays. Bro. Martin Jacks has accepted to be our pastor. We are so thanking for that. We are meeting at 9:30 a.m.; please come and join us. We are few in number but a loving church, and we will be so happy to see you. We try to go to other places on the other Sundays.
God is good to us and he is to you too. Just begin to count your blessings. Look for something to thank him for — the rising sun and break of day is a good place to start. It’s very hard to do on the days you don’t feel good, but if we can start there are always many things we can count as blessings. I’m so thankful I can still hold a pen and write.
God be with you all this week and as always I will close with a Bible verse for you to think on as you go through your day.
Proverbs 11:25: “A generous person will prosper: whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
Other reading: Proverbs 12:17-22.
