Choctaw County’s unemployment rate decreased by .3 percentage points in November, according to preliminary figures from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
The county’s jobless rate was 5.3% in November.
This compares to 5.6% in October and 5.3% in November 2019. The county’s 12-month moving average is 6.4%.
The estimated number of unemployed Choctaw Countians in November decreased by 20 to 190
November jobless rates in adjoining counties: Calhoun, 5.3%; Chickasaw, 7.2%; Webster, 5.4%; Clay, 9.1%; Grenada, 5.5%; Montgomery, 6.4%; and Oktibbeha, 5.7%.
Seasonally adjusted, the state’s unemployment rate was 6.4%, while the national jobless rate was 6.7%. Unadjusted, the state’s jobless rate was 6% and the national rate was 6.4%. Amounts are seasonally adjusted at the national and state levels only.
For the month of November 2020, thirty-two counties in Mississippi posted unemployment rates less than or equal to the state’s rate of 6.0 percent. Rankin County posted the lowest unemployment rate for the month of November at 3.7 percent followed by Lafayette and Lamar Counties at 4.2 percent. Jefferson County had the highest unemployment rate for November at 16.4 percent followed by Wilkinson County at 14.3 percent
