After the recent tornadoes that hit neighboring Winona, the Town of French Camp is looking into an emergency plan.
On March 24, an E3 tornado touched down on Highway 407 in Winona, the storm began in Southeastern Carroll County and came through Montgomery County before stopping just before the Webster County line.
Even though French Camp and Choctaw County were not in the line of the tornadoes, it hasn’t been uncommon for storms to come through or near French Camp.
Alderwoman Ritha Moore and Becky Stevens said after the storms, they want something in place that where residents in town can feel safe.
“Because those storms scared me,” Moore said.
The two said they wanted to who to contact, where they could shelter.
Vice Mayor Jan Henderson said that could be laid out once Mayor Glen Barlow returned.
Moore also said she wanted to thank those who donated to the storm victims in Winona.
“We sent tons of water, shovels, rakes, tents, tarps. The turnout was tremendous,” she said.
Henderson also said people are complaining about the speed humps that were recently installed.
“We’ve gotten calls from people asking why they’re so high,” Henderson said.
Alderman Bo Kirby said they’re no different than the ones that the Town of Weir have going out of town. He said he didn’t think they were too high, but were needed because of the amount of children who use the road to walk into town.
