Isaiah 53 was the topic of a recent Sunday School lesson. This chapter paints a prophetic painting, as it were, of the Messiah Jesus, hundreds of years before his birth.
One of the learning activities from our lesson featured nine quasi-rectangles. The space in the middle of them has the name Jesus. Our teacher pointed out that Isaiah has one of the most comprehensive vocabularies of the cherished Hebrew language.
We were asked to place words from Isaiah 53 that describe our Suffering Savior in the eight boxes, as it were, and list words, in those same boxes, that describe Jesus in the New Testament. For example, “rejected” is used in Isaiah 53:3 and in John 1:11 is the phrase “received him not.”
Students were also encouraged to write a prayer thanking him for his great sacrifice for us.
