WALTHALL: Mrs. Nora Eudy who has been sick for some time with the flu is able to be up again. - We are glad to welcome Mrs. Nelis and children to our village. They are living in the house with Mr. O. F. Carroll. - Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Reed were called to Choctaw county last week to see their sister, who is very sick. - Mrs. Ed Hays is very low at this time. We hope for her speedy recovery. Rev. J. W. Hicks of Bellefontaine was called here last Monday night to see her. - Walthall has been well-blessed in the Influenza epidemic. We have had only a few cases and one death.
EMBRY: School opened again Monday with very good attendance. - Mr. and Mrs. Arther Carroll of New Hope spent the week end at Mr. Henry Hitts. - We are glad to know that M. Carroll’s family is doing better after having several cases of the Flu. – Miss Mattie Hitt left Sunday to take up her school at New Hope.
EUPORA: Buchanan & Co. handles the famous White Bird Flour, get a barrel and try it, you will be satisfied. - Pet Hightower is billed for overseas. He will leave Camp Pike this week. - Mr. T. K. Arnold from the bank of Morehead visited his mother, Mrs. Alma Arnold. - Miss Odine Therrell left Sunday for Charleston, to take up her school again. - Miss John L. Ingram visited her grandmother, Mrs. J. T. Harvey at Mrs. W. Hays at Walthall Sunday. - We are glad to see Mr. Geo. Wofford able to be again after a severe attack of Flu. - Turkeys and Geese at T. W. Foard and Company. - Mr. Brown Phillips will leave Sunday for Camp Pike for Officers Training Camp. - The following girls left Wednesday for I. I. & C.: Lucy B. Leigh, Annie Mae Taylor, Mary Lee Gunter, John L. Ingram, Ruth Morris, Mariena Eudy, Ruby Shaw, Katie Rose, Gladys Few, Eva Lindsey, Christeen Buchanan, Ethel Vance.
Mr. Jim Shaw, for many years one of the most highly respected citizens of Choctaw County, residing a few miles south of Eupora, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. R. C. Smith, at Dwiggins, Miss. last Sunday, November 2nd. He is survived by five sons and two daughters. He was buried on Sunday near Dwiggins, the present residence of his daughter, where he was residing at the time of his death. He was 72 years of age, was a devout member of the Baptist church and Masonic Lodge.
