The Maben Lions Club added two new members on Oct. 23 at the regular meeting.
Past District Gov. Armando de la Cruz of Starkville came to induct Terry Harpole and Stewart Martin into the club, bringing the total membership up to 22. PDG de la Cruz charged the new members to be active in the club and to support the charitable work being planned for this year. He also charged the sponsors of the new members, Pat and Rob, to mentor them until they become well oriented.
On Oct. 13 this year Lions Rob and Jane Collins and Lion Joe Ann Williams traveled to New Albany to attend a cabinet meeting for the district. At that meeting Maben Lions turned in 56 pairs of gently used glasses that had been collected for redistribution.
Donated glasses can be placed in the two new collection boxes found in the foyers of Trace-Way Restaurant and of the Bank of Kilmichael in Mathiston. Just drop your reusable glasses into the colorful collection boxes and they will be picked up and taken to a place where they can be refurbished and used again by needy people.
The Maben Lions Club also voted to participate in a food drive in co-operation with a District Zone project to provide food to a charity during the month of November.
The food drive Maben will help with is in conjunction with the Midway Church of Christ drive to collect quart jars (or smaller) of spaghetti sauce, boxes of spaghetti (noodles), bottles of ranch dressing and bottles of Thousand Island dressing. These items will be collected and delivered to the Midway Church of Christ to be picked up early on Nov. 12 and delivered to the Pine Vale Children’s Home in Corinth.
To contribute to this drive please contact Nellie Blade at 263-4996 or 263-8264, and she will tell you where to take them or direct you to a Maben Lion who will come get your items. Thank you for helping with this project.
