Eupora is getting set for the playoffs in softball after finishing out the regular season last week with a mixed bag of results.
Following a loss to East Webster to begin the week, the Lady Eagles dropped a game against Calhoun City with a chance to get the No. 2 seed in the division. Eupora did fire back to close out the regular season earning a win over Bruce to finish 13-8 and 5-3 in Class 2A, Region 2 play.
Hosting Calhoun City to begin the week, the Lady Eagles got off to a rough start in the game when they fell behind 3-0 in the first inning. After cutting the lead to 3-2 after the second, the Lady Eagles saw the lead jump to 7-2 in the fifth inning and 9-3 in the sixth. Eupora scored five runs in the seventh but it wasn’t enough as they lost 10-8.
Leadoff hitter Aubree Mason finished the game 2-for-4 with hits in her last two at bats. Meleah Pogue finished 2-for-4 as well and Ella Harrison and Cydney Murphey were 2-for-3.
Pogue, Harrison and Rylee Brooke Crowell were honored on Senior Night Thursday as the Lady Eagles would play Bruce. Eupora came out strong in this one flipping the script from the loss to Calhoun City by scoring three runs of its own in the first inning.
The Lady Eagles came back and got four runs in the third frame to go up 7-0, scored two more in the fourth and then put up a four-run sixth inning to get the run rule at 13-3. Eupora had 11 hits in the game led by Murphy’s 3-for-5 night with a double. Harper Doggett went 2-for-4, MacKenzi Reed-Wood had two hits and Ally Bingham had a two-hit game as well with a double.
The win sealed up the playoff spot for the Lady Eagles as they will now travel to Palmer this weekend on Friday to play the Lady Dragons in a double-header. If a third game is needed, it will come back to Eupora on Saturday.
