A joint effort has led to the installation of a food box in Eupora to help those in need.
Katie Collum Sisk of Eupora said she noticed a need here about six weeks ago, talked to some friends and came up with an idea for a food box. One is now located in Eupora outside the Community Counseling Services building at 1660 Veterans Blvd S.
This is a community-run project, according to Sisk. People in need can take food from the box, while those who want to help others are asked to put a few nonperishable items in the box from time to time.
Sisk and her husband, Brian, donated the materials to mount the box and helped install it. Mike Cox of Starkville built the box and his wife, Lisa, put the first food items in it.
Sisk thanked Sarah Blaine Woodward of Ackerman, the Coxes and her husband for helping make this a reality for her hometown. Woodward also thanked CCS for hosting the first food box in Eupora.
“I stopped by to check on/add items to the food box and so much has been placed in it,” Sisk wrote in a social media update Monday. “Thank you to everyone who is stocking the box. I’m more than sure this will help the ones in our small town that are worried about their next meal.”
