Both Eupora basketball teams have gotten off to slow starts as the boys and girls lost two games each last week.
Eupora has a full week of basketball scheduled this week. On Tuesday, they will host Choctaw County before traveling to the Winona Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Thursday, Eupora will play Winona starting at 7 p.m. On Friday, Eupora will play Oxford starting at 4 p.m. and on Saturday will play J.Z. George starting at 2 p.m.
Houlka boys 71,

The Eagles led by four at the half but couldn’t hold off Houlka who came back to take a seven-point win.
Houlka led 19-18 at the end of the first and 33-29 at the half. But Houlka outscored Eupora 42-31 in the second half to take the win.
“With the football guys playing so late (into the season), we have been kind of rusty so far,” Eupora boys coach Eric Marshall said. “But they are coming together. I think we have a chance to be really good once everybody figures out their role.”
Jarrean Patterson led Eupora with 21 points while Camron Culpepper had 14 points and Kaleb Rush added 12 points.
Hatley girls 35,

Hatley held Eupora to two points in the fourth period to pull away and take a 10-point win.
Hatley led 8-4 at the end of the first and 21-10 at the half. But Eupora outscored Hatley 14-4 in the third to make it 25-24. But Hatley outscored Eupora 10-2 in the fourth to take the win.
Ta’Kiyah Townsend led Eupora with 12 points while M’Nyiah Young had five points.
Ethel boys 82,

The Eagles got a balanced scoring attack but couldn’t slow down Ethel as they took a loss in their season opener last week.
Each team scored 16 points in the first period and Ethel outscored Eupora 19-11 in the second to lead 35-27 at the half. Ethel got rolling in the second half, outscoring Eupora 24-18 in the third and 23-14 in the fourth for the final.
D.J. Patterson led Eupora with 18 points while Camron Culpepper had 14 points. Jarrean Patterson had 13 points while Zak Morris added 10 points.

The Lady Eagles fell behind early and fell short in a comeback bid against Ethel.
Ethel led 17-7 at the end of the firs and 29-19 at the half. After trailing 40-29 at the end of the third, Eupora outscored Ethel 18-10 for the final margin.
“I think we are slowing getting better,” first-year coach Jonathan Childs said. “I have been impressed with our defense. That has been encouraging. We are really young and will only get better.”
