Four alderman candidates met the qualifying deadline for the Dec. 8 special election in Mathiston. Josh Buford, Scott Hollenhead, Josh Palmer and Gregg Pritchard will appear on the ballot that day in Mathiston. The special election was set to fill the vacancy of alderman created by the October death of Alderman James “Jim” McMinn. The filing deadline was Nov. 16. Absentee voting is available from 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. weekdays at Mathiston City Hall. Circuit judge runoff set for Tuesday Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the runoff election between two candidates for circuit court judge. Alan “Devo” Lancaster and Doug Evans will be on the ballot in Webster and six other counties for circuit judge of District 5, Place 1. Lancaster led the ballot Nov. 8 in a fiveperson election to succeed Judge George Mitchell Jr., who died in April. Mitchell was the only person who had qualified before his death, and the governor reopened qualifying afterwards. The four-year term begins in January. Lancaster serves as Winona municipal judge and Evans is district attorney.
