More measles
The United States has seen what happens when a critical mass foolishly resists getting vaccinated for measles.
Europe is experiencing the same phenomenon now.
Last week the World Health Organization reported that through the first six months of this year, nearly 90,000 Europeans were sickened by the highly contagious and potentially fatal illness.
That’s double the number reported from just a year ago.
The U.N. health agency said that the outbreak has been fueled in part by the scientifically unfounded fear that vaccination can lead to autism in children.
Despite the thorough debunking of that claim, it persists on the internet and shared by many.
Even though this outbreak seems far away, it’s not. International travelers can spread the disease in the United States just as much as kids in California or New York can.
