Three candidates for mayor will be on the ballot in next week’s Democratic primary in Louisville.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the Louisville Coliseum for aldermen and Mayor.
Incumbent Mayor Will Hill will face Stacy Thames and Vardaman Eugene Traxler in the primary.
The winner will advance to the general election on June 8 against Rion Young, who is running as an independent.
The open seat or Alderment At Large has three facing off for the post. Roger Caperton, L.M. Claiborne, Jr, and Ray Harrington are on the democratic primary ballot with the winner taking office since there is no republican or independent challenger.
In the open seat for Ward 2, Robert Brown will face Cody Ming. The April 6 winner will face Republican Russ Nowell on June 8.
In Ward 3, incumbent Gwenita Mays faces Jamie Eaves. The winner will take office since no June opponent.
In Ward 4, incumbent Eugene Crosby will face Charlie Miller. The winner will take office since no June opponent.
Ward 1 aldermen Drew Massey has no opponent.
City Hall is open for absentee voting from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. today and Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, which is the last day to vote by absentee in person.
Registered voters are eligible to vote by an absentee ballot if they are over 65, permanently or temporarily disabled, a college student or will be out of town on the date of the election.
Debate Thursday
With the Louisville mayoral and alderman primary election next week, and Noxapater and Louisville general election on June 8, all candidates are invited to a debate Thursday, April 1, 2021.
The Winston County Journal will host the debate at 7 p.m. at Lake Tiak O’Khata.
Publisher Joseph McCain noted each candidate will be asked two or three questions pertaining to the future of the communities.
“We want to promote the importance of voting and the elections in our communities,” said McCain.
The candidates are requested to sign up with a $25 fee to participate. Each candidate may bring one person to the debate.
Cynthia Hanna McCain will act as the moderator for the evening. She is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science, a former Winston County Journal staffer, a mother of two boys, and published author.
From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. the candidates and their one guest will review the rules of the debate along with the setup while socializing.
