A Hattiesburg radiologist with local ties to Louisville, was recently elected vice president of the Board of Trustees Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning. Dr. Steven Cunningham, who joined the IHL Board in May 2018, was elected to the position by his fellow trustees. Dr. Cunningham was appointed to represent the 2nd Supreme Court District by then-Gov. Phil Bryant. Cunningham’s term runs through May 2027.
Cunningham earned his bachelor's degree from Jackson State University and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee. A Columbus native, he has lived in Hattiesburg with his wife, Lakeisha Price-Cunningham, formerly of Louisville, and their two daughters for the past sixteen years. He is the son of Nathaniel Cunningham of Okolona and Sharron Dailey-Beamon of Louisville. He is the grandson of the late Everett and Junior Lee Dailey of Louisville.
Cunningham succeeds trustee Jeanne Carter Luckey, who passed away in November 2024. Luckey and Cunningham joined the College Board in the same group of Bryant appointees.
