Most Winston Countians have watched in great anticipation the construction of the Pearl River Resort’s latest addition – the Crystal Sky, which is located on South Church Street. Last April, a groundbreaking ceremony was held, and, within eighteen months, the casino/restaurant/truck stop and fueling station was ready to open for business.
The gaming floor is much like that of other Pearl River Resort establishments; the Crystal Sky boasts 150 slot machines including progressive slots. The Sports Book of Crystal Sky offers the ability to catch every game on 21 large-screen LED TVs. It is adjacent to the gaming floor.
Many are excited about the food and fuel portion of the Crystal Sky. Truckers are encouraged to stop and utilize the 4,000 convenience store and fueling station. There are sixteen fueling stations – 12 under the main canopy and four truck lanes. The convenience store also offers “grab n go” type foods – pizza, sandwiches, and rotisserie chicken.
One of the highlights of the Crystal Sky is a 24/7 restaurant – Mama n Em’s. Customers can get a filling, Southern-style, sit-down breakfast any time of the day. Plus, Mama n Em’s offers Southern-style foods, including greens, vegetables, fried chicken, and so much more. Mama n Em’s seats 60 guests at any time.
The Crystal Sky was opened on the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Silver Star Casino (which opened in July 1994). Chief Cyrus Ben welcomed visitors to the grand opening of the Crystal Sky, and noted during his speech that he would be traveling to Sandersville later Thursday evening to commemorate the anniversary of the opening of the casino at the Bok Homa location.
Chief Ben spoke for about ten minutes to the crowd. He noted the anniversary of the opening of the Silver Star and detailed how Pearl River Resorts had expanded over the years. He thanked all the members of the Tribal Council, who were in attendance, including a council member from the Crystal Ridge (Louisville) community. He thanked all those who had a part in the construction, planning, and opening of the Crystal Sky. Ben also noted how he looked forward to working with the leaders of Louisville and Winston County in respect to the Crystal Sky.
“It’s a bit like Christmas, getting to unveil the Crystal Sky,” noted Ben. The idea of the Crystal Sky being a “gift” for employees, of which there are 180. Many of those employees have worked at the resort in Philadelphia; because of the opening of this location, they are able to work “at home” rather than having to travel.
The Crystal Sky is open 24/7, including the convenience store, gaming area, and the Mama n Em restaurant.
