The Winston County Sheriff's Office is seeking information to find person or persons who vandalized and damaged tractor equipment on a in District 2 on September 1.
District 2 Supervisor Luke Parkes described the damaged as unconscionable with the equipment owned by the citizens of the county and benefitting the citizens of the county.
On September 1, District 2 work crew arrived to the site to begin workday to find over $150,000 worth of damaged equipment including a new county tractor.
"We think they came out here, jumped on the equipment, and actually started running the tractor around," Parkes said.
He said early Wednesday, September 1 morning an unknown number of people started up the heavy equipment and crashed it, until the machine got stuck in the water.
“A little fun” will be at the entire District 2 expense since the loss of time and loss of use of the equipment as well as the expense of over $150,000 of the equipment.
It was an act that left District 2 Supervisor Parkes and District 2 crew frustrated, behind schedule, and forced to deal with the very expensive damage.
"Right now there's damage on tractor and other piece of equipment," Parkes said. "As an estimate, we would say this could easily be $150,000 in damage."
Parkes said Winston County Sheriff has gathered up evidence and are offering up a reward for anyone with information.
"It's a sad day when somebody wants to vandalize county equipment and disrupt the livelihood of those working for the taxpayers of Winston County as well as cost the citizens of Winston County hundreds of thousands of dollars," Parkes said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Winston County Sheriff's Office (662) 773-5881.
