Local agencies were among those supporting the investigation of a shooting incident in Oktibbeha County.
The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department posted on social media last week that it needed the public’s help in investigating a shooting incident.
The law enforcement agency stated the shooting took place Feb. 6 on Sturgis-West Point Road. The department said it was searching for Roy Lee Fuller Jr., also known as “Jr,” who was wanted for
attempted murder in connection with the incident.
The Houston Police Department posted about 4 p.m. Saturday that it had Fuller, 42, in custody. The OCSD posted later Saturday that Fuller had been captured and was in its custody, and faced charges of attempted murder. The department further stated:
“After receiving information about his whereabouts, Fuller was apprehended at a hotel in Houston by the diligent efforts of the Houston Police Department and Chickasaw County Sheriff's Department.”
SuperTalk Mississippi News reported Monday that Fuller is accused of shooting an unidentified male who was sent to a hospital for treatment and was said to be in stable condition. The news outlet identified Fuller as a Starkville man and his Facebook profile lists his hometown as Mathiston.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff Shank Phelps extended his gratitude to all the officers who worked on the case, bringing it to a safe conclusion.
"The assistance provided by area agencies has been exemplary and shows what dedicated officers can accomplish when they work together," he remarked.
The Mathiston Police Department and Webster County Sheriff's Department were among agencies the OCSD extended thanks to for their “invaluable support.” Others were the Starkville and Houston police departments, and the CCSD.
“Together, their collaboration ensured that justice was served and our community remains safe,” the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department stated. “Let's continue to support and appreciate the hard work of our law enforcement officers.”
Additional details about the shooting had not been made available as of press time.
