An Attala County man has been charged in connection with the death of a man at a nightclub on Sturgis Road, on February 25, 2024.
Sheriff Mike Perkins said Aaron Smith, 30, of Kosciusko, has been charged with the murder of Gabriel Gale. The shooting took place at a nightclub, known in the area as TJay’s.
He said they received a call from someone at the Choctaw Regional Medical Center in Ackerman alerting them of the shooting because the shooting took place in Winston County.
Perkins said after interviewing numerous people who were at the club on the night of the shooting, he said their investigation led them to Smith.
He stated that it’s believed that the shooting occurred because of an argument that happened inside of the club that led outside of the club and that Gale wasn’t an intended target.
Perkins said he was an innocent bystander.
He stated the Winston County Sheriff's Department worked with the Attala County Sheriff's Department on locating Smith. Perkins said a lawyer from Jackson contacted the department and said Smith would turn himself in and he did.
Smith went before Judge Robert Beck who set his bond at $100,000. His preliminary hearing is set for April 3.
Perkins said that the investigation is still ongoing.
Smith has since been released on bond.
