The Choctaw County Board of Supervisors will hold its budget hearing on September 16 at 9 a.m.
The board is operating with a budget of $19,194,642 and 42 percent of that or $8,050,539 is levied through ad valorem taxes. The board is proposing a budget of $18,405,329 and 41 percent of that or $7,465,255 is levied through ad valorem. This is a decrease of $789,313 and an ad valorem decrease of $585,284.
However, there will be an increase in the millage from 80.04 mills to 84.61 mills which is an increase of 3.77 mills that will cover a 3 mill note and school maintenance for the Choctaw County School Board.
This increase will result in an increase in ad valorem taxes. Any Choctaw County resident is invited to attend the budget hearing and will be allowed to speak before a vote is taken.
