After serving the Town of Ackerman for almost six years Police Chief Tim Cook is taking off his badge and hanging up his utility belt—for good. During their monthly meeting, Mayor Dale Reid announced that Cook had tenured his letter of resignation.
“I hold in my hand a letter from Police Chief Tim Cook,” Reid said. “He’s retiring and his last day is September 27.”
Cook has been in law enforcement for 24 years and has 21 years of military experience. He served with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department for 10 years and won top city police officer for the State of Mississippi in 2006. He’s been with the Ackerman Police Department for almost six years and has served as Chief for almost five years.
Cook and his wife Brandy have two children and two grandchildren. He said he plans to spend more time with his grandchildren.
“We’re gonna miss you,” Alderman Tommy Curtis said with all the aldermen in agreement.
After an executive session for a personnel matter, the Town of Ackerman promoted Assistant Chief Martha Caradine to the new Police Chief.
Caradine has been with the Ackerman Police Department for ….years. Caradine has also worked for the Winona Police Department, her husband Lawrence is currently the police chief in Eupora. Caradine’s promotion is effective…. while Cook prepares to transition out.
The board also voted to hire two new police officers.
