WRITEON FOR OCT 30
sister alies.
It is the end of October and the fall has fallen. Tiny baseball players, superheroes and angels will delight in parties, trunk-or-treat and parades. For just this moment, at the edge of the year, fantasy will prevail and many will fill neighborhoods with excitement.
This past 10 weeks I’ve tried to share some of the issues that our small businesses suffer and to encourage you to shop/buy local as best you can. I know it’s not always easy. Any feedback would be welcomed.
As we begin to consider the end of the year, I always want to ask myself a few questions...so I’ll share them with you. Have I/you become more gentle? Have I become more thoughtful of others rather than just worrying about myself? Have I taken risks that scared me a bit to strengthen my ‘trust’? Have I learned to disagree without being disagreeable? Have I been a good citizen? Have I grown in gratitude? Am I less judgmental? Have I laughed a lot or been caught on the pity-pot? What do I most need to improve or ask for help for? [this could go on forever so...] Finally, how have I let others help me to grow so that I might be of better service, especially to the most vulnerable?
There are no absolute answers, of course, and each of us growing in this garden, requires varying amounts of fertilizer and water. But, growing we are, otherwise we are deadheads or lifeless. That doesn’t mean physically dead, but perhaps a sort of dead inside that needs nutrition and some supplements to get back on track? Who knows what will awaken us?
On any given day something just might quicken our spirits and like the fellow and lady in this little story…it’s all a matter of perspective:
“A woman stepped out of her shower stark naked and was about to reach for her towel when she saw, to her horror, a man standing on the scaffolding washing her window and eyeing her appreciatively. So shocked was she by the unexpected apparition she stood transfixed to the ground, gaping at the man. ‘What’s the matter, lady?’, the fellow asked cheerfully. ‘Have you never seen a window cleaner before?’” (deMello,1992)
BLESSINGS.
