WRITEON FOR JUNE 19
sister alies.
I returned last night after a wonderfulllll two weeks away in Washington state...visiting family and friends (some not seen for over 40years!). The weather was amazing...the mountains filled that part of my soul again (having been born in rural Idaho and lived in Washington) and I am equally happy to get back home, here to MS, and my little hut and friends.
Exposure to another place, time, food, and folks always challenges and directs us to something deeper. When one is also among those who remember from 40 years ago incidents, choices, difficulties and joys also surface. Even photos appear and one is either shocked at how much change occurred or how folks, well sorta look the same, but a bit heavier or grayer! (Perhaps there's a new novel in that one?).
In the SPOKANE INLANDER there was an interesting column: 'If you could design a public art piece for Spokane, what would it be and why?' Here are some of the responses: “Ryan...a piece of artwork that evokes feelings of gratitude, positive emotions that are beneficial...Frank...commemorating the heroes of Spokane, the people who helped where there's trouble...police, firefighters,EMTs...Ari...some kind of model of the North-South freeway as it currently is near Riverfront Park...Mia...Horses...I feel like Spokane is too modern and that we need to go back to a traditional base...I feel its too perfect...Trista...probably about the homeless youth we have here...getting run down and there's not a lot of help for them...they need a voice...nobody's speaking for them...I'd put it at the convention center!”
Quite a variety. What if I asked the same question to Choctaw County folks? If you could design a public art piece what would it be, where would it be and why?
Might be a real challenge...and maybe one or more groups of folks might design it...a contest? Lots of folks put it together...or just one artist? What do we mark, what do we model for ourselves and tourists to see and understand more about us? How about a little in-put on this one? Send to my email...sraliestherese@gmail.com
BLESSINGS.
