The Conference room of the Winston County Library was the sight of the April meeting of the Louisville Fortnightly Club. Hostesses were Sylvia Clark, Virginia Hathorn, and Annie Peal Matthews.
President Leah Boydstun called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guest. Guest speaker Karen Allen, local owner of Earthworks Landscaping was introduced by Virginia Hathorn.
Allen talked about various plants and how they can be used in home décor. She pointed out that plants and their popularity go through trends in the same way as other things in our culture. Succulents are very popular at this time. There are many types and colorations of succulents. They are easy to grow and can be very attractive in home and garden décor. Allen had several types of succulents on display to show their variations and color range.
Allen demonstrated how artificial succulents can be used in arrangements. The artificial plants are very lifelike and attractive. Allen showed how the plants can easily be arranged by using a slab of tree trunk and moss to make an attractive arrangement to be used in the home or on the patio.
After the demonstration, Allen took questions from club members. A wide array of topics concerning plants were asked and discussed.
After the program, the devotional was given by Virginia Hathorn. Then, the meeting proceeded with the pledge and club collect.
President Boydstun called for reports from committees. The nominating committee presented the slate of officers to be nominated for 2022-2023. The nominations were accepted by acclamation. Officers for the upcoming term are the following: President, Glenda Chandler, Vice President, Virginia Hathorn, Recording Secretary, Lliane Garnur, Correspondent Secretary, Brenda Hunt, Treasurer, Judy Thomas.
President Boydstun closed the meeting by thanking the hostesses and everyone for attending. Refreshments were served and a time of fellowship was enjoyed by all.
