At the regular monthly meeting of the Louisville Municipal School District Board of Trustees, held on Tuesday, April 12, the principals of the individual high schools in the district recognized their valedictorians, salutatorians, and star students/star teachers.
Nanih Waiya Attendance Center Principal, Rhyne Thompson, introduced the Warriors Valedictorian, Natalie Thompson, with a GPA of 103.8, Salutatorian, Joely Garrard, with a GPA of 103.4, and Star Student, Charlie Tarlton, with a GPA of 100.7. Tarlton introduced the Star Teacher, Bobby Butler.
Noxapater Attendance Center Principal, Chet Wilkes, introduced the Tigers Valedictorian, Kaitlyn Sanborn, with a GPA of 103.1, and Salutatorian, Joshua Robinson, with a GPA of 101; Robinson was also selected as the Star Student, Chasidy Wells selected as the Star Teacher.
Louisville High School Principal, Danya Turner, introduced the Wildcats Valedictorian, Ja'Leia Hathorn, with a GPA of 105.3, and Salutatorian, Kaylee Frazier.
In the Superintendent's Report, Asst. Superintendent, Dr. Paula Stokes, reported that the COVID years had a significant impact on students, especially in the area of math, adding that they have been working to bring students to where they need to be ever since returning to class. The district is not where they want to be, but gains are being made.
In other action, the Board:
•Voted 5-0 to approve claims dockets and agency/activity fund checks.
•Voted 5-0 to approve the March 2022 bank balances and financial reports.
•Voted 5-0 to approve advertising for a metal building for baseball fieldhouse/concession stand at Nanih Waiya.
•Voted 5-0 to approve advertising for HVAC and renovation projects in the district to be paid from ARP funds.
The next meeting of the Louisville Municipal School District Board will be on Tuesday, May 10, at 5:30 p.m.
Each STAR Teacher of the top three ALL-STAR Scholars received a $1,000 award. One-time scholarship awards of $1,000 are provided to the remaining top 17 ALL-STAR Scholars. The remaining 17 All-Star Teachers received a $500 award. The Kelly Gene Cook Sr. Charitable Foundation, Inc. provided $88,500 in scholarships and awards to STAR Students and STAR Teachers.
The theme for the 2022 Education Event was “Journey to the Stars.” This year, the MEC’s M. B. Swayze Foundation recognized 320 STAR Students across the state. Each STAR Student received a medallion, lapel pin, and certificate in recognition of their academic achievement.
