The Louisville High School baseball facility, located in the park on Ivy Avenue directly across the street from LHS, has been in need of a face lift for some time, and Winston Plywood and Veneer has stepped forward to assist in the refurbishment in a big way. On Wednesday, January 26, school officials and WPV representatives met at the baseball field, and WPV presented a $25K donation to aid in the renovations.
WPV CEO, Bruce Warren, said, "We're delighted to be a part of this community, and it's our pleasure to be able to give something back." He added, "We're wishing the boys a great season this year."
Concerning the donation, Head Baseball Coach, Nick Morrow, said, "That's awesome. I'm a firm believer that when you are trying to build a program you need the guys to buy in, and their families, and when the community begins to support that's when you can go somewhere."
One of the biggest projects is to completely rebuild the dugouts which badly needed to be replaced, and that construction is already underway, and should be completed when the Wildcats host a jamboree on February 12. The new dugouts will be much deeper than the old ones, with knee-walls and possibly netting in front.
The backstop wall has been repainted, and Morrow said that one of the next projects is to replace the netting around the infield, and there are plans to eventually upgrade the lights. The donation from Winston Plywood and Veneer will go a long way to help accomplish these tasks.
