NOXAPATER: Mr. W. J. Reynolds and family of North Bend are here for the Commencement exercises. - Mayor J. M. Harris and family were called to Ackerman Sunday by the death of their kinsman, Mr. Frank Townsend. - Mrs. Pearl Young entertained the Senior Class with a party Monday evening, where all present spent a most enjoyable time. - Miss Mattie Watkins of Philadelphia is guest of her sister, Miss Sally at the dormitory. - Mrs. C. C. Reed has as her guests Misses Irene and Dora Creekmore of DeKalb and Audrey and Adrey Chisholm of Duffle. - Miss Cora Collins of Union is guest of the Misses Filer for the commencement. - Miss Ruby Fulton of Rocky Hill is a visitor in the home of her sister, Mrs. Fabian Fraser. - Mrs. C. C. McNeel and children and Mrs. Z. A. Brantley of Louisville were visitors here Tuesday guests of Mrs. W. W. Hickman. - Mr. and Mrs. Lee Crawford and little son of Kosciusko were guests of the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Gunn, Saturday and Sunday. - Miss Sara Loper of Hickory is guest of her father, Dr. Loper, the new druggist here. - The first program for the commencement exercises was given Tuesday by the primary and elementary grades. A large and appreciative audience was present to enjoy the splendid program that was well so rendered as to reflect credit upon themselves as well as the teachers who have been so faithful in training them.

Mr. Irvin Richardson and Miss Lydia McCool of east of town, were married in Louisville on the 8th inst., Judge Cagle officiating. - Mr. C. Y. Woodward has been employed by the city to look after the mosquito fight now in progress in our city, and it is hoped that a successful victory may be won. Every cess pool or standing hole of water in the town is to be drained or oiled so that no breeding place may remain. Every citizen is earnestly requested to lend any aid possible to the work.
LOCAL HAPPENINGS: Otho Clower, who has been attending the school here, left for his home in Arkansas yesterday. - Mrs. J. B. Parkes attended the closing exercises of Mississippi College at Clinton this week. - Married, in the Circuit Clerk’s office in Louisville on May 21st, J. D. Hill officiating, Mr. Ira Sharp and Miss Vic Lee Jermany of McDonald. - Mr. Crow and daughter, Mrs. Keen and Virginia Reynolds of Starkville, were the pleasant guests of Mrs. Money Crow last week. - Mr. B. F. Fuller was a visitor here yesterday and brought along a couple of stalks of Early Surprise corn which is in roasting ear state, and which, due to the late season, is somewhat a novelty.
Do you notice a scarcity of flies this spring? Let’s make them more scarce. It can be done, and thereby make disease also scarcer. - Mrs. J. L. McCracken is attending the closing exercises of the Grenada High School, where her daughter, Miss Virginia White graduates. - Mr. and Mrs. Edison White left last week for Starkville, where they will make their home, Mr. White having charge of the Lewis & Hull grocery store there. Mr. White has acted as deputy Sheriff here for several years and he and Mrs. White made many friends among our people who regretted to see them leave. They are splendid people and we commend them to the good people of our sister city. - Miss Sadie Hopkins, who has been at State University the past session, is at home to the pleasure of her many friends. - G. J. Wood, Postoffice Inspector, is at home for a few days. Gilbert happened to have an unfortunate accident a few days ago while making a country trip up in Missouri, where his car struck a stump in the road, throwing him through the windshield and cutting some painful gashes on one hand and his face.
Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Hight, who are on a visit to Mississippi friends, went over to Macon Thursday of last week where they will visit prior to leaving for their home in San Antonia, Texas. - Mrs. Cotton of Bradley is visiting her sister, Mrs. Ruth Riley. - Frank Fair visited Memphis this week.- Miss Mary Agnes Gordon, who has been teaching at The Franklin High at Columbus, returned home last Friday. She was accompanied by her friend, Miss Grace Hornburger of Harrisburg, Va. - Miss Honor Webster, who has been attending the University, returned home this week to the delight of her many friends. - Mrs. M. C. Gage and daughters, Vernelle and Mary Carolyn, are visiting her mother, Mrs. Lawless in Hattiesburg. - Brooks Ezell made a business trip to Memphis this week. - School has closed and the teachers have gone to their home for the summer vacation. So late was the spring this year that the teachers escaped the hot, sultry weather in the school rooms that they usually get.
C. E. Riley made a business trip to Memphis last week. - Miss Meridith Fox arrived home this week from a visit to her brother in Pelahatchie. Miss Meridith is recently from Touro Infirmary, New Orleans, where she went some time ago to take a course as trained nurse but to her regret her eyes failed her to such extend that the physicians advised her to discontinue the work. Her many friends are glad to have her at home again. - Mrs. E. L. Tomlinson is in Hospital for an operation for appendicitis and her many friends wish her and early return home. FRIDAY MORNING – News reached here early this morning that Mrs. Tomlinson’s condition is very serious and she is not expected to live. Her children, accompanied by Mrs. Bob Mitchell, left for Houston at 5 o’clock.
