Mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 7 from 2:30-6 pm for the annual Holiday Open House at the Choctaw County Library, located at 511 South Louisville Street in Ackerman.
This year’s Holiday Open House will include opportunities for giving, purchasing gifts, and plenty of holiday fellowship.
Santa will be at the library to visit with children for free photo sessions.
This year’s Holiday Open House will include the Festival of Trees decorated by local groups and businesses. The Festival of Trees will also include selecting winners in four categories. All visitors may vote for their choices in: Best All-Around, Most Traditional, Most Creative, and Best Youth Tree. The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce and the Friends of the Choctaw County Library System have donated prizes for the winners of each category.
Musical entertainment will be provided by the Choctaw County High School Choir and the French Camp Academy Choir.
The Friends of the Choctaw County Library will be selling t-shirts and enrolling new members. Every person who joins the Friends of the Library or renews their membership at Holiday Open House will be entered in a raffle to win a gift basket.
The CCCTC Culinary Arts Class will offer a Hot Chocolate Bar for guests to enjoy, and the Choctaw County High School Band Boosters will have a Bake Sale Fundraiser set up.
This year’s Author Meet & Greet will include 4 local authors: Benny Graves, with his book Dancing with Trees: A Family Journal; Cyrena Shows, with her children’s books; Erin Ulerich, with her book In Unexpected Ways: Christmas in Everyday Life; and Whitney White, with her children’s books. All of these wonderful authors will have books available for purchase.
The Choctaw County Extension Office will be giving away their Holiday Recipe Booklets. These booklets are made up of recipes from local community members.
Finally, the Choctaw County Food Ministry will have their trailer on site for a “Pack the Trailer” Event. Please bring donations of non-perishable food to help local families in need.
