Mark your calendars for Thursday, December 2nd at 6pm for the annual Choctaw County Christmas Parade. The parade will be in downtown Ackerman with the theme Let Christmas Sparkle.
Make sure to get your family a good spot along the parade route to watch all the parade entries. The parade route will begin on Main Street (4-way stop at Commerce Street), travel down Main Street, turn right at 4-way stop onto N. Louisville Street, travel to the 4-way stop, and turn right onto East Cherry Street to continue to Ackerman Baptist Church. The parade lineup begins at 5:15pm on Main Street near Dewey Street and goes back towards College Street at the Choctaw County High School. The Christmas Parade starts at 6pm.
The Chamber of Commerce is accepting entries now. Contact the Chamber if you would like to participate in the Parade.
Local school groups will be selling popcorn and cotton candy before and during the Christmas Parade as fundraisers. The Mississippi Lignite Mining Company will be giving away free hot chocolate.
On the day of the Christmas Parade, make sure to shop the Silent Auction via Facebook. The Silent Auction will feature handmade items with a $25 value, or more and proceeds go to the Nursing Home Auxiliary. Photos of the items will be on Facebook, and you can bid by commenting. Bidding will begin on Tuesday, November 30th, when all items are posted, and end on December 2nd at 5pm. Items will be on display at Ackerman Town Hall on December 2nd from noon until 5pm if you want to stop and see the items in person. Winners will be notified and can pick up their items from Town Hall. If you would like to donate, contact Patty Draper at 662-285-7097.
