On Friday, December 29, all elected officials met at the large courtroom to be officially sworn in. Chancery Judge Kiley Kirk presided over the ceremony. Newly elected officials were sworn in, including the new Circuit Clerk and Tax Assessor. Incumbent officials, such as previous members of the Board of Supervisors and the Chancery Clerk were also sworn in for the new year.
The swearing-in ceremony was opened with a devotion by Pastor Anthony McIntosh, who also serves the county as a chaplain at the Winston-Choctaw County Regional Correctional Facility. Rev. McIntosh’s message was centered in Acts 27, a chapter in which the Apostle Paul deals with King Agrippa. In this Biblical story, Paul is a prisoner, yet he still shows leadership during a shipwreck on stormy seas.
McIntosh then shared a quote from John MacArthur, “Don’t pick up your ball and go home because things don’t go your way.” He finished the message by saying he was grateful for our county leadership.
Brother Charles Rook, a local pastor and chaplain, led a prayer after the devotion.
The Board of Supervisors were sworn in as a group, followed by the new Sheriff, the election commissioner, constables, coroner, the new Circuit Clerk, the new Tax Assessor, and the Chancery Clerk. These officials repeated their oaths of office before a packed room, with numerous family and friends in attendance.
