Webster County’s unemployment rate increased two-tenths of a percentage point during November, according to preliminary numbers from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
The county’s unemployment rate stood at 3.5% during November, compared to 3.3% in October and 3.4% in November 2021. This was the 19th lowest rate in the state.
The number of unemployed Webster Countians in November increased by 10 to an estimated 140. The labor force, which is made up of everyone who has a job or is looking for one, increased by 60 to an estimated 3,840.
MDES statistics from 1990 forward show the county’s highest unemployment rate for November was recorded in 1995, when it reached 17.1%. The lowest rate for that period was in 1998, when it dropped to 3.2%. The 12-month moving average is 3.8%.
November jobless rates in adjoining counties: Calhoun, 3.9%; Chickasaw, 3.9%; Choctaw, 3.4%; Clay, 4.3%; Grenada, 3.4%; Montgomery, 4.2%; and Oktibbeha, 3.6%.
Mississippi’s unemployment rate for November was 3.7% while the national jobless rate was 3.4%, neither seasonally adjusted.
