The first annual Walk for a Cause was a big success, although there were multiple events scheduled in Winston County on October 21. Saturday morning was sunny, but chilly with starting time temperatures in the low 50s.
However, around sixty people showed up to garner awareness for their causes, and that made the event memorable.
People walked for causes including the awareness of colon and breast cancer, leukemia, thyroid issues, Alzheimer's, domestic violence, and much more.
The event began at the Louisville storm shelter/dome at 8 AM. Chief of Police Sean Holdiness escorted the walkers as they traversed Columbus, Pontotoc, East Ridge, Jackson and Richardson streets. The participants would make their way back to the Dome to end the event.
Community Liaison Patricia Whitcomb organized the event, and she welcomed those who had assembled on the crisp fall morning. She would tell participants to talk to each other as they walked, and, most importantly, to “enjoy yourself” as they walked for their various causes.
