They didn’t get to play in the Super Bowl nor did they have Tom Brady, but the 1964 Camille High Football went 10-0 in the Big 8 Conference as it was know and is arguably one of the Greatest teams. A strong statement in a football tradition rich area of Winston County.
In honor of Black History Month, this past Saturday February 5th the local community activist and members of that 1964 team partnered to sponsor a Chicken Giveaway.
Mr. Billy Meets and Rev. McIntosh of Mount Olive Bethel Harmony District Association opened the doors to these men and helped them to giveaway over 100 bags of Chicken Quarters. John “Bone” Edwards, Director for the Trojan 4 Life Alumni, stated that “inspiration to celebrate Black History is what the community needs.”
The Trojan 4 life Alumni is not foreign to the community but these “Old Heads” as many of them references are looking to invest back into Louisville.
“We want to highlight our outstanding black leaders and significant events in Positive Light,” stated Edward.
These former athletes, far removed from their playing days showed up and showed Louisville they “still have it.” Edwards stated that it was his high school coach Mr Hudson who wanted the players from that team to remain close and help the community.
Former Louisville High Head Football coach, M.C. Miller was in attendance. Asked what staying active in the community meant, he stated, Giveaways helps you inspire, honor, and celebrate African-American history and achievements, plus promote kindness in your schools, churches, businesses, and communities.”
It’s safe to say, Black History Month started off on a good foot and a good “Leg”.
