The Town of Weir has awarded SunCoast Infrastructure, of Florence, Miss., its Community Block Development Grant.
The estimated project amount for the grant is $261,000 and SunCoast Infrasturcture came in under $245,000. The total amount is $297,000 and Engineer Marty Crowder said there was $51,000 that could be used for more rehab in the project.
“You don’t want to send anything back,” George Crawford with Golden Triangle Planning and Development said.
Also, a local law enforcement officer wants the Town of Weir to consider building a mental health facility.
Johnny Kelly went before the board of aldermen to discuss the proposal. Kelly said the facility would be a benefit to not only Choctaw County but other counties as well and would bring in jobs to Weir. He said the facility could be a 24-bed facility.
He said he thought about the land behind Menezer that the town purchased to make it into a industrial park.
There was a discussion of whether the land was in town limits. Alderman Steve Wright said the town purchased 40 acres with the hope of building an industrial park in the 90s. But, the park never came completely to fruition with Marshall and Henderson, before it sold to Menezer, being the only industry out there.
Kelly also mentioned a spot on Penderville Road, but that spot may not be in town limits.
“Johnny will you come back in December when you have more information?” Mayor Glen Beard, Sr. asked Kelly.
Kelly said he’d returned to the December board meeting with more information for the board.
