In the minutes of the Board of Supervisors meeting held on March 21, it was recorded that the Supervisors had voted to move the Hebron voter precinct to the Mt. Pisgah Church, and to authorize the Clerk to make a payment of $100 to the church. In the meeting held on Monday, April 4, the Supervisors voted to make a correction to the minutes showing that the $100 payment was for cleaning of the church.
Mattie McDaniel met with the Board to discuss help at some African-American cemeteries in the county. It was noted that the Supervisors can be granted egress at the cemeteries but were not sure of the legalities of performing work within the cemeteries themselves. No action was taken at the meeting to give time to investigate the matter further.
It was reported that Kimes & Stone Construction, in Booneville, MS, has been sold to Sterling Construction. Kimes & Stone had been awarded bids on some road construction projects, and Sterling Construction has agreed to honor those bids. The Board attorney is consulting with the Attorney General's office concerning the legalities involved.
The Supervisors approved the signature of a Fair Housing Act Declaration which must be upon any grant application.
