Sadie Jules Stevenson will represent Winston County at the Distinguished Young Women of Mississippi competition in Meridian next week, July 14-16. She was selected the overall winner of DYW Winston County during competition in late February.
“I was honored to have been chosen to represent my county and be able to give back through my representation and service to a place that has given me so much,” Stevenson said.
The daughter of Chris and Tonya Stevenson, Stevenson was born and raised in Louisville. Although she has no history with similar programs, DYW has been special for her since she decided she wanted to participate at an early age.
“From the age of four, I have had the privilege to see young women shine through this program, and I have known for a very long time I would want to be able to experience it as well,” said Stevenson.
Stevenson will be a senior at Winston Academy this fall. After graduation, she plans to attend Mississippi State University and pursue a career as a radiation oncologist.
“All the scholarship money I receive from the DYW program will help greatly with my tuition as I begin study at Mississippi State in the fall of next year,” Stevenson said.
For her education, Stevenson has attended Winston Academy (WA), where she was most recently elected as student body president. Her honors include Mississippi Governor's School, Girls State Delegate, and Secretary of State Student Ambassador 2022-2023. She serves as Winston County Anchor Club president and is a member of the Winston County Crown Club, Mayor's Youth Council, and WA Honor Society. Her sporting activities at school include the golf team and varsity cheer and track, and she is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
For the DYW experience, Stevenson is grateful for her generous local sponsors. They include First Baptist Church-Louisville, Baker's Ready Mix, Lake Tiak-O'Khata, M&N Computers, Plum Crazy, Hullabaloo, Tabor Drugs, Louisville Tire, Becky's Antiques, Market Café, Moody's Furniture, Silver Goose, Southern Traditions, The The Mason Boutique Hotel, Woody's, The Taylor Group, Eubanks Wrecker, Hudspeth Construction, Louisville Motors - James Ashley, J. From the state level, one overall winner for Mississippi will be selected to compete in the DYW national scholarship competition in 2023.
