Established in 1969, the Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Association (The Symphony) has spent the last 55 years providing the Starkville and Golden Triangle communities with high quality performances incorporating musicians from Mississippi State University (MSU), the Golden Triangle area, and other areas across the state. The Symphony has been committed to serving its community with free concerts that introduce new genres of music to its audiences.
Starkville-MSU Symphony Association will host the Sea Symphony program on March 23, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. This program will be at Mississippi State University in the Bettersworth Auditorium at Lee Hall, featuring the Symphony Orchestra, MSU Cantare’, Community Chorus, Starkville High School Chamber Choir.
The annual choral masterworks program features the famous Brahms – Academic Festival Overture and the 2024 MSU Student Solo Competition Winner, before a sweeping performance of the Vaughn Williams – Symphony No. 1 “A Sea Symphony,” a majestic, sweeping composition that carries the listener on a journey to Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass.
