The Webster County School Board met with some parents about a student issue during a previous meeting.
Superintendent James Mason and the board met with the parents in executive session to discuss a student issue during the Oct. 10 regular meeting. No action was taken in executive session.
Jennifer Caver, principal of East Webster Elementary School, introduced Paisley Edwards as the Webster County Board of Education Student of the Month for October.
Mason introduced Josh Alford, director of the Webster County Career and Technology Center and transportation director, to the board.
Consent Agenda
The board approved these items as a part of the Consent Agenda:
•approved the minutes of the regular board meeting held Sept. 11.
•approved an audit proposal from Watkins, Ward and Stafford for services for years ending June 30, 2023-25.
•approved a 16th Section hunting and fishing lease for Tye Tindall.
•approved a request to accept the quote from Target Door and Supply to replace exterior doors on district schools.
•accepted the resignation of Leigh Johnson, special education director, effective Oct. 2.
•approved a travel request to attend a business administration conference.
•approved a field trip for the Eupora High School Beta Club.
•approved a fundraiser for the EHS.
•approved various donations and asset disposals.
In other matters, the board approved the 2022-23 amended budget as presented by Business Manger Amanda Gray.
Mason and the board collectively answered the 2024 Mississippi School Boards Association. Legislative Survey to be returned to the MSBA. Board members tabled the yearly policy revisions by the MSBA.
Diane Raye was approved as a substitute teacher, effective Oct. 11, pending background check.
The board also approved financial reports and the docket of claims.
Vice President Marilyn Brown presided Oct. 10 with board members Jimmy Hood, Daniel Bingham and Gabby Davis also present.
Special Meeting
The board had a special meeting at 2 p.m. Oct. 25. Brown presided with Bingham and Davis present via telephone. Each of these recommendations presented by Mason was approved 3-0:
•that Dixie Pogue be approved as Special Services director, including federal programs and special education, effective Oct. 23.
•that Tracy Palmer be approved as Alternative School director, residency coordinator and district test coordinator, effective Oct. 23.
•that Leslie Frank be approved as special education case manager, effective Oct. 23.
•that Leigh Johnson be hired as interventionist, effective Oct. 26.
Also, board members unanimously approved a request from the Eupora High School band to perform in Orlando, Florida, in January. Mason added that the band requested acceptance of funds donated from the band boosters in the exact amount of expenses.
The board adjourned until Nov. 13.
